The Intifadas (1987-1991)

The Intifadas were a series of popular uprisings taken by Palestinians that attempted to 'shake off' the occupation by Israel. Most of these actions were nonviolent, despite the Israeli use of brutal force in the face of protest. These largely fizzled out by 1991, with almost 1,300 Palestinians dead.
